Novo UK win the Employment Hero Award 2018!

Last Friday Novo UK was in attendance at the Dacorum Business Heroes Awards ceremony hosted at the rather elegant Shendish Manor to celebrate the achievement of local businesses and to recognise those businesses and individuals who have gone above and beyond. We were delighted to collect the Employment Hero award in recognition of creating “an environment where people feel valued, unique and included.”

The awards ceremony was a fantastic occasion and a great opportunity to spend time with some truly wonderful people working in a rich variety of industry sectors and settings throughout Dacorum.

It was great to see the Rt Hon Sir Mike Penning MP in attendance talking passionately about Dacorum and the amazing people and businesses working within the region and presenting grants of between £1000 and £2000 to entrepreneurs as part of the Dacorum’s Den initiative.

Also in attendance was Ian Rose – one of Great Britain’s most successful Paralympic Judo competitors- who delivered one of the most interesting and inspirational speeches I have ever had the pleasure of listening to, recounting stories of courage and resilience as he made his way from a “shy child teased for his disability” to an elite athlete competing at the highest possible level.

Two things Ian mentioned that will stay with me for a long time:

1- Paralympians are elite athletes who happen to have a disability. They are not people with a disability who have just decided to “have a go” at athletics

There is a massive difference and one that should never be forgotten

2- It doesn’t matter how successful you are, what line of business you are in, how much money you make, how many gold medals you win etc – the only thing that is truly important in life is having the love and support of your family (and friends).

I couldn’t agree more. Some of the “richest” people in the world are some of the poorest. That is not to say that we shouldn’t all strive to be the absolute best in everything we do but be humble enough to recognise that nothing compares to those things that make our lives absolutely complete.

Congratulations to all of the winners on Friday. It was a pleasure being in your company and fantastic to see how vibrant, progressive, entrepreneurial and dedicated we are as a community.
