Mental Health in Construction: Mark French, Group Head of Health, Safety and Environment at Willmott Dixon

In a world where there is still a certain stigma attached to mental health and specifically talking about mental health, it was great to spend some time with Mark French (Group Head of Health, Safety and Environment @ Willmott Dixon) to find out what is being done in the world of construction to recognise and address this.

Often when we think of Health, Safety and Environment within construction, our minds turn towards the physical aspects of health and safety, the hidden (and sometimes not hidden) dangers on site that could lead to injury but it is so much more than this. Historically mental wellbeing has taken somewhat of a back seat but fortunately as it becomes more socially acceptable to talk about our feelings – something traditionally not associated with a heavily male dominated construction world – businesses have started to recognise how critical it is to address mental health issues in order to create safe working environments.

Mark took the time to visit us at Novo’s offices to explain to our staff members about his role within Willmott Dixon and he was kind enough to answer a few questions presented to him by our Health and Safety consultant – Stephen Lindsey.
